MMI LAUNCHES FIRST CROSS-PLATFORM MULTIMEDIA MESSAGING
SERVICE ON KPN I-MODE
Starting the 7th of
February on KPN Telecom Wireless Network
Mobile Media International,
a leading developer of global entertainment services for
wireless has announced a partnership with KPN Mobile, the
largest mobile operator in the Netherlands. The launch
of the service on KPN will be the first in a series of
European launches for the suite of MMI multimedia services.
The partnership will begin by making the service, called "Yo!Cards" content
available to KPN "i-mode" customers in the Netherlands
beginning this February.
Yo!Cards will add a dynamic offering of multimedia messaging
to i-mode phones in the Netherlands, allowing subscribers
to send animated messages not only among i-mode subscribers,
but also from i-mode handsets to PCs. PC recipients of
Yo!Cards can also respond directly to the sender's i-mode
phone. With an extensive collection of animated messages,
the service will target Europe's rapidly growing demand
for youth-oriented multimedia wireless services.
The launch of the service has been timed to coincide with
Valentine's Day, one of the busiest days of the year in
terms of additional SMS traffic.
ABOUT MOBILE MEDIA INTERNATIONAL
Mobile Media International (MMI) is a leading developer and provider of
global entertainment services for wireless. It operates mobile services
in France, Holland Spain, and the United Kingdom. A subsidiary of Tokyo-based
Mobile Media Japan, the company leverages technology, partnerships and
industry experience gained from Japan's trend-setting wireless market,
which has over 60 million mobile Internet users. MMI is based in Amsterdam,
the Netherlands.
KPN TELECOM
KPN offers consumers and businesses high-quality, innovative telecommunications
services. KPN's core activities are telephony and data/IP services in our
fixed network in the Netherlands, data/IP services in Western Europe through
KPN EuroRings (our fiber-optic network in Europe) and mobile services in
the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. KPN is market leader in the major
segments of the Dutch telecommunications market. Through E-Plus in Germany
and BASE in Belgium, KPN is the third largest mobile operator in those
countries. At year-end 2002, we had more than 38,000 employees serving
7.9 million fixed-line customers, 13.4 million mobile customers and 1.4
million Internet subscribers. KPN is listed on the Amsterdam, New York,
London and Frankfurt stock exchanges. KPN's customers decide where, when,
how and with whom they communicate. We enable them to do so by providing
fixed and mobile lines with varying bandwidths (including ISDN and ADSL
in the fixed network, and GPRS and soon UMTS for mobile communication).
A shift is observable from voice communication to data communication. i-mode
has made this development visible in the use of mobile services. We want
our activities to contribute to materializing the concept of a world where
everybody is able to communicate anytime, anywhere.
